Updated Prescribing Policy

Updated on June 26, 2025

At Blizzard Psychiatry, we are committed to providing safe and effective care to all our patients. In order to ensure the responsible prescribing of Schedule II Controlled Medications, we have updated our medication prescribing policy.

Dear Patients:

I am writing to inform my patients of changes being made within my practice related to controlled substance prescribing. Due to increasing regulatory restrictions, medication shortages, insurance requirements, and regulations directing the practice of prescribers nationally and in Florida, I find it necessary to inform you that I will no longer be prescribing specific schedule II substances for patients over the age of 16. This applies to you if you are currently prescribed Adderall (amphetamine/dextroamphetamine) Adderall XR (amphetamine/dextroamphetamine), Adzenys (amphetamine), Desoxyn (methamphetamine), dexadrine (dextroamphetamine sulfate), Evekeo (amphetamine sulfate), ProCentra (dextroamphetamine sulfate), or Zenzedi (dextroamphetamine sulfate).

This policy change will take effect as of July 1, 2025, and all patients who are currently prescribed one of these medications are being referred out of the practice. I will be providing a one time, 30-day supply of the specific schedule II medication currently prescribed, to allow time for you to find a new provider who can continue your care. This one-time refill will only be available until July 31, 2025, and after that point, these prescriptions will no longer be provided. I will provide a one time, 90-day supply of any non-controlled psychotropic medication currently prescribed until July 31, 2025.

I highly recommend you find a provider in your area who can offer in person appointments and specializes in the prescribing of these medications. I recommend that you find a new provider as soon as possible so that there is no delay or gaps in your healthcare. I will remain available to provide medical services to you, on an emergency basis only for 30 days so you can arrange for another physician/provider to assume your care. A medical records release authorization form is enclosed for your convenience. Upon receipt of your signed authorization, I will forward a copy of your medical record. I will also be happy to discuss your case with the physician/provider who assumes your care.

I will be available for emergency only appointments for patients prescribed these schedule II substances until July 31, 2025. You may also visit your local emergency department, call 911 or 988, or contact Central Florida Behavioral Health 407-370-0111 if you have a psychiatric or medical emergency.

Patients of Blizzard Psychiatry who are currently prescribed Schedule II Controlled Medications will be closely monitored through regular follow-up appointments, and prescription monitoring programs. Our providers will continue to conduct a thorough assessment of the patient's medical history, current medications, and treatment goals. They will also discuss alternative treatment options and potential risks and benefits, when necessary. Please feel free to contact us if you have any adidtional questions or concerns, and we would be more than happy to assist.

We believe that these updated prescribing policies will help us better serve our patients and ensure the safe and appropriate use of Schedule II Controlled Medications. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
